LoSalt Challenge

Take the LoSalt Challenge
To help you work out how much salt (even the 'hidden' salt contained in processed foods) you're consuming and whether you need to cut back, we've designed the LoSalt Challenge. You can download your copy here.

Using a points scoring system, this shows you much salt is present in a number of common foods. Add up what you would eat in a typical day and see how you score.

Top tips for reducing your salt intake
When buying processed and convenience foods, check the label to see if salt is present. The higher up the ingredient list it comes, the more there is in the product.

When you taste these foods, ask yourself: "Does this taste salty?" If you think it does, then look for other brands the next time you shop.

Look for products marked "low in salt" or "no salt added" and try them.

Look out for the LoSalt flash. To meet the government's recommendations, more and more forward thinking food manufactures are switching to LoSalt.

The easiest salt intake to control is the salt we add ourselves. The simple rules are: don't add salt when cooking; and add salt at the table only after tasting, if at all.
