LoSalt joins fight to improve salt health in the US

With studies confirming the negative impacts of excess salt on health and salt intake levels across the USA at an all time high, it seems now more than ever the North American salt market is fertile ground for a reduced sodium salt alternative.
For a relatively small business based in Glasgow, Scotland, entering into the vast US market may seem a daunting prospect. But there is great belief that LoSalt, a healthier alternative to regular salts with 66% less sodium, can succeed in becoming ubiquitous on American store shelves and help curb the excessive salt intake in the US.
Since launching in the US only in September 2009, LoSalt has achieved a national listing and is available in almost every Whole Foods Market store across the country, the world's largest retailer of natural and organic foods, as well as key regional retailers. In addition, it is also available in several smaller natural food stores.
One area with significant distribution is New York, where LoSalt is available in most supermarkets and achieving very strong weekly sales figures.
The secret to its success is down to its great taste and its high level of sodium reduction (66%), significantly higher than its major competitors.
It is more natural than the other salt alternatives available in the US - containing only 3 ingredients, mainly potassium (66%) and sodium (33%) which gives it a flavour close to regular salt.
LoSalt is also on offer in both Original and Iodized forms, meeting the all the demands of the US consumer. What's more, it is the only reduced sodium salt that is Kosher verified.
LoSalt has invested in significant consumer marketing post launch. It has run demonstrations stands in stores, where customers can try the product before they buy it, which has provided excellent feedback.
"Customers commented that the salt tasted just like regular salt, and did not have the medicine-y aftertaste that many salt alternatives have," said the Demo Specialist in the Whole Foods Market store in Coral Gables, Florida. "I did not get any negative responses from the taste."
