Salt Awareness Week 2012
This year's Salt Awareness Week ran from 26th March - 1st April with a range of events taking place across the country to raise awareness of the dangers of too much salt in our diet.
The week kicked off with CASH releasing a story on the startlingly high levels of salt found in takeaway pizzas. This gained nationwide coverage in the press and hopefully highlighted the high levels of salt hidden not only in takeaway foods, but in all processed foods that we eat.
The highlight of the week was a reception at Houses of Parliament, where representatives from major food manufactures (including LoSalt), leading supermarkets and various charities all came together to discuss salt reduction.
There were speeches from CASH Chairman Professor Graham MacGregor, MP David Amess and TV's Dr Hilary Jones, who all underlined the importance of salt reduction in the food we eat and the dangers it can cause to our health, including increasing our risk of stroke, which was the theme of this year's event.
Over 600 events happened all over the country to raise salt awareness, many of which used materials supplied by both CASH and LoSalt.
This included the Gleneagles Hotel at the world famous golf course, where a salt health stand was put together in the staff canteen.
The team at the Tonic Wellness in London were also educated about their salt health, and the team at Barr Limited in Paisley promoted salt health and Salt Awareness Week using LoSalt as part of their Healthy Working Lives Award.
And Rebecca Wall used LoSalt samples and literature to promote salt health at HMP Downview.
But it doesn't need to be Salt Awareness Week for you to promote salt health in your workplace, club or canteen. LoSalt provides materials to raise salt awareness all year round, so click on the contact button to find out what materials are available and how to get in touch.
